Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapist Assistant performs various technical respiratory therapy treatments under general supervision. This contributes to quality patient care.
Essential Functions of the Role
- Performs various respiratory therapy treatments like PEP, IS, and O2 checks. Provides Incentive Spirometer treatments and oxygen therapy following established procedures.
- Under general supervision, instructs patients in the use of various treatments in a thorough and professional manner.
- Updates patient records with all therapies provided, and reports all unusual signs, symptoms, or side effects immediately.
- Documents all treatments and therapies given, any supplies used and accurately files all corresponding charges.
- Performs regular cleaning and sterilization of equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintains the proper functioning of oxygen and emergency equipment through daily checks. Notifies staff to order necessary supplies as needed.
- Currently enrolled in a Respiratory Care program.
Key Success Factors
- Basic knowledge of Respiratory Care modalities, therapies, equipment, and medications.
- Must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
- Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both orally and in writing.
- Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
- Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand-held scanning, and email.

QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent, Must be in in 2nd Year of RT Program
- EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience
