Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapist Assistant performs various technical respiratory therapy treatments under general supervision. This contributes to quality patient care.
Essential Functions of the Role
Performs various respiratory therapy treatments like PEP, IS, and O2 checks. Provides Incentive Spirometer treatments and oxygen therapy following established procedures.
Under general supervision, instructs patients in the use of various treatments in a thorough and professional manner.
Updates patient records with all therapies provided, and reports all unusual signs, symptoms, or side effects immediately.
Documents all treatments and therapies given, any supplies used and accurately files all corresponding charges.
Performs regular cleaning and sterilization of equipment in accordance with established procedures.
Maintains the proper functioning of oxygen and emergency equipment through daily checks. Notifies staff to order necessary supplies as needed.
Currently enrolled in a Respiratory Care program.
Key Success Factors
Basic knowledge of Respiratory Care modalities, therapies, equipment, and medications.
Must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both orally and in writing.
Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand-held scanning, and email.

EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent, Must be in in 2nd Year of RT Program
