Summary:
The Lead Radiology Support Specialist supports Akron Children?s commitment to efficient, patient-centered care by guiding the clerical operations within the Radiology department. This role fosters collaboration, service excellence, and team development while ensuring consistent, high-quality support across scheduling, check-in, and imaging coordination.
Responsibilities:
Oversees daily workflow and staffing for the Radiology Clerical team to ensure timely patient care and excellent customer service, under the direction of the department supervisor.
Serves as a working lead and role model across clerical functions, including Radiology Files, Scheduling, and Front Desk operations.
Acts as liaison with the IS Radio-Informatics team, supporting system use, troubleshooting, and data quality.
Coordinates staff coverage for call-offs, breaks, and schedule gaps, and adjusts staffing based on volume and operational needs.
Performs hands-on clerical duties in systems such as Epic, RIS, and PACS to support departmental workflow.
Provides orientation, training, and coaching for new hires, technologists, students, and clerical staff.
Delivers exceptional customer service and serves as a role model for professionalism and service recovery in high-stress environments.
Communicates and collaborates effectively with clinicians, physicians, radiology technologists, and hospital departments.
Contributes to performance feedback and annual evaluations for clerical team members.
Assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor and supports ongoing improvement initiatives.

Technical Expertise
Proficiency with hospital systems including Epic, RIS, and PACS required
Experience in either radiology scheduling or technical platforms (IS, IT, PACS) required
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment
Strong customer service and communication skills, including telephone etiquette and conflict resolution
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues and independently problem-solve
Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy required
Experience working collaboratively across multiple departments and levels of staff
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in scheduling, registration, or customer service using phones and computers required
Healthcare or medical experience required; radiology experience preferred
One years of experience in a lead, coordinator, or supervisory role preferred
Experience in Radiology Files or PACS strongly preferred
Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology preferred but not required
