Under the supervision of the BURL Supervisors and BURL Manager, the HLTIII performs, a wide variety of technical and non-technical procedures, independently, within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The HLTIII prepares specimens for analysis as needed, i.e. label, centrifuge aliquot and receive and follows up when specimens are unacceptable. Performs laboratory functions within the expected turn-around time according to established procedures and management guidelines. Performs accurate computer order entry functions. Assists supervisor by drafting preliminary daily and/or monthly staff work schedule for supervisor approval. Assists in coordination of couriers and routes and follows up on service delays. Assists in validation and implementation of new processes, software and/or equipment. Acts as Beaker CP SME. Assists other team members with their job functions, stocks supplies, clerical duties, etc. Follows through to completion of job assignments with minimal supervision by the management team. Answers calls and provides accurate and appropriate information. Records and reviews maintenance records for accuracy. Instructs laboratory personnel in the performance of new and/or modified procedures. Assists with initial and/or annual competency assessment of laboratory personnel. May be required to perform other duties as requested for operational purposes and may require employee to cover any of the BURL sites. Must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts as needed.
Qualifications
•High school diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED or HiSET)
•Must have at least 3 years of recent high volume laboratory experience
•Must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts as needed
•Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite
•Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
•Excellent communication, organization and time management skills
•Skill in performing related computer procedures (LIS, HIS)
•Knowledgeable in quality assurance practices, preferred
