Northwestern Medicine is seeking an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as the Radiation Oncology System Chief of Physics and Dosimetry (CPD). This is a unique opportunity to join a rapidly growing, academically driven enterprise and help build one of the premier radiation oncology departments in the world.
About the Role The CPD will provide strategic, clinical, and academic leadership for physics and dosimetry services across all Northwestern Medicine radiation oncology sites. Reporting directly to the Chair of Radiation Oncology and the Vice President of Administration, the CPD will oversee system-wide operations while driving innovation, integration, and academic distinction.
This is a highly visible role with the mandate to:
Shape the future of radiation medicine by advancing cutting-edge technologies, adaptive workflows, and automation.
Champion academic discovery and innovation, securing funding and building high-impact collaborations with industry and academic partners.
Inspire and mentor a diverse team of physicists, dosimetrists, residents, and trainees, fostering a culture of excellence.
Elevate patient care by ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Provide vision and direction for all physics and dosimetry programs across the health system.
Lead strategic and operational initiatives that advance quality, efficiency, and clinical innovation.
Drive academic impact through funded research, publications, and national/international visibility.
Recruit, retain, and mentor top-tier talent, building a team recognized for leadership and innovation.
Ensure the highest standards of commissioning, calibration, and acceptance testing for all treatment technologies.
Cultivate partnerships with industry leaders and professional societies to shape the future of the field.
Qualifications
Required
PhD in physics, medical physics, or engineering.
Eligibility for inclusion on the Northwestern Medicine radioactive materials license.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership in a large academic or integrated health system.
Demonstrated success in team leadership, operational management, and regulatory compliance.
Strong communication skills, with proven ability to engage across disciplines.
Experience with budgeting, strategic planning, and technology evaluation.
Preferred
≥10 years of leadership experience in academic medical physics.
Record of funding acquisition, academic publication, and/or invited presentations.
Expertise across all modalities: external beam, brachytherapy, and radiosurgery.
Recognized leader with existing vendor and industry partnerships.
