Short Description
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients’ activities of daily living and plan of care. Communicates with and supports healthcare team, patients and/or patient’s family or significant other(s). Maintains and demonstrates high standards of professional ethics.
Assists the Registered Nurse in providing direct, indirect, and patient support services responsibilities.
Contributes to quality patient care by serving as a significant member of the health care team.
Provides support and information to the patients and family of the surgical perioperative division.
Provides clerical support to the Surgical Access Center (SAC), Surgical Care Unit (SCU) and PACU. These activities enable the RN to focus on providing continuous patient direct care.
Performs clerical support and may be responsible for the collection of laboratory specimens.
Overview
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is where patients come to recovery from a surgical procedure. PACU is located on the third floor of the Pavilion and Kelemen building. There isalso an area on Pavilion 2. Patients here can often be sent home following theprocedure or are admitted to the hospital. This is based upon the procedure performed and the necessary recovery needed. If admitted the patient is transferred to the appropriate floor for continued recovery and discharge. The PACU sees infants to geriatrics. Here the patients are closely monitor while they are waking up from the anesthesia they received during the procedure. Depending on the procedure and the orders received from the physicians the patient will be discharged home or admitted to the hospital.
Experience Required
Acute Care experience preferred previous hospital experience.
Additional unit-specifications may be required.
MST (Multi Skilled Technician) training, or enrollment in an accredited Nursing program, or certified nurse’s aide training preferred.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
License/Certification Requirements
Current NJ-BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) upon hire.
CNA Certification preferred or currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing program.
