The University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Division Chief of Nephrology. The candidate will provide strategic leadership across the division’s clinical, research, and educational missions while advancing innovative kidney care and strengthening UVA’s national reputation in nephrology.
The Division includes 32 faculty members and 8 advanced practice providers and provides dialysis care to more than 800 patients across 12 UVA Health Dialysis facilities in Central Virginia. The division has a robust kidney and kidney–pancreas transplant program performing approximately 225 transplants annually; as well as a 9,000 square foot research laboratory in Pinn Hall.
Responsibilities:
Lead inpatient and outpatient nephrology services, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care
Oversee dialysis program
Collaborate on and support a high-quality academic kidney transplant program
Partner with health system leadership to grow and optimize clinical programs and care delivery
Sustain and expand a robust research program
Strengthen extramural funding, mentorship, and investigator development
Foster innovation, collaboration, and scholarly productivity
Support and enhance the nephrology fellowship program, including recruitment, curriculum, and mentorship
Promote excellence in education for trainees and junior faculty
Lead divisional strategy, including faculty recruitment, retention, and resource allocation
Oversee administrative operations, budgets, and infrastructure
Represent the division regionally and nationally; engage with key nephrology organizations
Elevate the division’s academic visibility and reputation

Qualifications:
MD, DO, or MD/PhD
Board certification in nephrology
National reputation in academic nephrology
Demonstrated leadership, research productivity, and commitment to education
