Children's Hospital Colorado's Heart Institute is nationally ranked for heart care and surgery by U.S. News & World Report (#6), treating patients from across the country. The Director of Patient Care Services (Heart Institute) provides clinical and operational leadership and support for cardiac services offered at Children’s Hospital Colorado. This includes oversight for the staff and space in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Progressive Care Unit, Outpatient Clinic, ORs/Catheterization Laboratory, Non-Invasive Laboratory, Exercise Laboratory, and all of the programs and services delivered to these patient populations. The Director’s focus is to ensure high quality care coordination and oversee operational systems in support of strategic plan and annual goals in the areas of clinical care, research, education, and advocacy. The Director reports directly to the VP Critical Care Services/Associate Chief Nursing Officer with a dotted line reporting to the Executive Director of the Heart Institute. This position works collaboratively with Medical Directors and other Clinical & Administrative leaders across the organization.
The Director Patient Care Services provides overall leadership and management for one or more departments by developing short- and long-term departmental strategic plans and goals; developing and directing the implementation of goals, objectives, and performance standards; representing the hospital in national/regional professional organizations; and fiscal oversight for multiple cost centers. The Director, Patient Care Services also provides clinical expertise, promoting evidence-based medicine and nursing and drives continuous process improvement in operational and service excellence. Finally, the Director, Patient Care Services provides leadership in managing Clinical Managers and complex or controversial patient/family issues.

Department: Nursing Administration Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits Shift: Business hours - M-F with some weekend and off shift coverage as needed.
Education: Master’s degree in Nursing or a directly related health care field is required.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience in addition to a minimum of three (3) years of nursing leadership experience. Previous cardiac experience strongly preferred.
Certification(s): Certification as a Nurse Executive or Nurse Executive, Advanced is required within two (2) years of hire is required.
Licensure(s): Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado at the time of hire is required.
